Royal honeymoon: Meghan Markle and Prince Harry reported to be holidaying in Canada

The royal couple defy expectations for their honeymoon destination

Namibia? Nope. The Philippines? Negative. Mexico? So old hat.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have surprised pundits by travelling to the clean, fresh air of the Rocky Mountains in Alberta, Canada, for their honeymoon, TMZ reports.

The couple are believed to be staying at the Outlook Cabin, which is part of the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge complex, located in the Unesco World Heritage Site of Jasper National Park.

The Lodge is based within a 700 acre luxury mountain resort on the shores of Lac Beauvert that includes Canada’s premier golf course. While Meghan’s handicap remains unknown, she was previously romantically linked to the Irish golf player Rory McIlory.

Their decision was more likely influenced by the couple’s royal heritage, however. The Outlook Cabin is also known as the Royal Retreat and has hosted the Queen and Prince Philip in 2005 and King George VI and Queen Elizabeth in 1939.

Surrounded by nature and wildlife, this is the perfect place for the royal couple to relax following the media circus that surrounded their nuptials. Far from roving paparazzi, Harry and Meghan can enjoy a range of treatments in the deluxe couples’ suite at the luxury spa, or take a dip in the outdoor heated swimming pool and hot tub.

Activities on offer to the newlyweds include hiking, canoeing, kayaking, horseback riding, white water rafting and ice-field walks and helicopter tours.

After a busy day out braving the elements, the pair can relax in the 6,000 sq ft cabin, which includes an enclosed conservatory and veranda, six bedrooms and a large terrace complete with barbecue.

Five different dining experiences are available onsite, including sushi and local twists on North Italian cuisine.

Breath-taking vistas, snow-capped mountains and lots of space mean the royal couple can finally get away from it all.
