OK, OK, I confess. At least one of the houses in Oakland Avenue, York (mine) doesn't have a TV licence, either ("Street protest at TV licence `shaming'", 24 January). I now await with trepidation the midnight knock at the door. Although arguably indicative of a mild social deviancy, I had not appreciated that non-possession of a licence - let alone a television - constituted such a grave criminal offence.
