AS A rheumatoid arthritic I was stunned and saddened by Dr Nigel Cox, Rheumatology Consultant at the Royal Hampshire County Hospital, being found guilty of attempted murder.

It is a great pity that the jury did not consist of some rheumatoid arthritics, as the ordinary person has no conception of the severity of the pain the condition can cause. We cannot afford to lose such a consultant as Dr Nigel Cox and I sincerely hope that when my time comes I shall have such a caring, understanding and conscientious doctor.

The law should be changed.
