Letter: Smokers develop diabetes

Sir: I'm afraid that Virginia Ironside ("There's no smoke without pleasure", 24 July) has been misinformed. Far from reducing the risk of developing diabetes, recent research indicates that smokers are more than three times more likely than non-smokers to develop the condition.
