Letter: Price war on Fleet Street

Sir: It is with concern that I note that the Telegraph has slashed its price to 30p, as I fear that the Independent may be the newspaper to suffer most in a price war. I hope that I speak for many more than just for myself, when I say that I would be pleased to carry on spending 50p each day just to be sure I could get a quality newspaper.

For as long as the Independent is available, I would rather pay 50p for it than pay even 5p for the Times or the Telegraph.

Yours faithfully,

JOHN LEACH
