Sir: James Cusick ('Lib Dem election loss is win for party president', 16 June) ignores the fact that the Liberal Democrats actually gained two Euro-seats. Mr Cusick asserts that Charles Kennedy's bet was placed in a way that could only be won 'in effect if the party performed way below expectations'. In fact, it was only the media that had such inflated expectations. Charles was simply putting his money where the party's mouth was.
