LETTER : It's alarming in the dark

Sir: Afraid of the dark (letter, 14 February) is not just "the regular collocation" as compared with afraid in the dark.

The two are different from/ than/to each other, and it is alarming that lexicographers at Chambers and Larousse can not see this.
