Letter: Doesn't arise

Sir: The essential ingredient missing from your report on guilt, pleasure and health (7 November) is an indication of who really paid for the research. Associates for Research into the Science of Enjoyment (Arise) are funded by booze, cigarette and chocolate manufacturers. I am sure that the scientific integrity of their study was in no way compromised by this connection, but I do notice that your report is rounded off with a claim from Arise's spokesperson on the stress-reducing properties of booze, cigarettes and chocolate.
