Lest we remember

No public exchange of rings, no "I do" before the altar, not a dress uniform or tiara in sight. No carriages, just a bus to transport the family guests and a car cheekily decorated with balloons for the Prince and his bride to drive away in. But above all, no kiss. These nuptials were scripted and choreographed in such a way as to silence any possible echo of that earlier royal wedding. There was not a single sequence, not a snippet of language that could be directly compared with the St Paul's extravaganza of 24 years ago. That took some doing. The show's producers deserve an Oscar and the rest of the champagne.
