A roundup of the top five hotels in five of the the world's major capitals on January 27.

Beijing

The Hilton Wangfujing is travelers' top pick in Beijing this week. It edged out trendy boutique Hotel G by three percent of recommendations, with guests praising the "oasis like" swimming pool. Large Western chains made up three of the top five this week, with Hilton, Holiday Inn and Park Plaza all making an appearance.

London

Five-star luxury makes up all of London's five most popular hotels this week, with Kensington's Milestone Hotel the most popular. Travelers praised boutique hotel's friendly staff and "sweet" rooms with views over Kensington Palace.

New York City

Overall rates at NYC's top five hotels were considerably cheaper than Paris or London, but guests reported no decline in luxury. Upper East Side's luxury hotel The Surrey took top spot, with visitors praising the "cozy but chic" decoration of the ultra-stylish rooms. The hotel reopened in October after a $60 million refurbishment.

Paris

The four-star Jays Hotel has beaten the eponymous George V to top spot in the Paris hotel rankings this week. Guests praised the comfort and communication from hotel staff, as well as the location, in between the Arc de Triomphe and the Eiffel Tower.

Tokyo

The Mandarin Oriental took top spot in Tokyo this week, recommended by 96 percent of travelers. It edged out Chuo's Park Prince Tower by only one percentage point though, with the famous Park Hyatt, scene of hit movie Lost in Translation, the third most popular overall. Guests praised the Mandarin Oriental's "impeccable Asian design" and customer service touches such as pre-printed laundry bags and specific electrical adaptors provided in the room before arrival.
