Ahead of the landmark summit between President Trump and Kim Jong-un, the North Korean leader checked in to one of Singapore’s most luxurious hotels yesterday: the St. Regis Singapore.

Situated in the heart of the city’s designer shopping district, Orchard Road, the hotel is minutes away from the bustling city centre and Singapore Botanic Gardens, a Unesco World Heritage Site, should the North Korean premier fancy a restorative stroll.

Boasting 299 rooms and suites, this five-star hotel contains one of the finest private art collections in Asia, with over 70 pieces including sculptures, paintings and prints by internationally renowned artists, such as Picasso, Joan Miró and Mar Chagall. Nanyan and Asian artists such as Georgette Chen and Li Chen were also selected as part of the establishment’s efforts to promote a balance between east and west.

The hotel’s Presidential Suite, perched on the highest of the hotel’s 20 floors, is the most likely place for the supreme leader to rest his head. Featuring custom-made Czech crystal chandeliers, art work by Marc Chagall, baby grand piano and a private balcony offering superb vistas of the city, this regal residence is the height of luxury. The master bathroom, which is lined with French Breche de Benou marble, includes a Jacuzzi, marble steam chamber and gym, ensuring guests depart feeling refreshed and relaxed. With prices ranging from $7,000 to $9,000 per night, budget-conscious travellers would do well to steer clear of this palatial pad.

Brasserie Les Saveurs, St. Regis Hotel, Singapore

Butler service is available for all St. Regis guests 24 hours a day and includes packing and unpacking luggage, providing refreshments, morning papers and garment pressing. The chances of Kim Jong Un taking advantage of this service is unlikely, however, with such personal tasks undoubtedly assigned to a close member of staff.

The six dining and drinking outlets in the hotel include LaBrezza which specialises in fine trattoria-style Italian dishes, Brasserie Les Saveurs, which focuses on French cuisine, and Yan Ting, a banquet-hall inspired room showcasing Cantonese fine dining.
