Ich Bin Ein Mallorcan

The newest airline flying between the UK and Spain offers exceptional value, including free food and drink aboard its new Boeing 737s. It has one problem: its name, which is Air Berlin. Many travellers wrongly assume that the airline (0870 738 8880, www.airberlin.com) flies primarily to and from the German capital. But Air Berlin also flies between London Stansted and Palma de Mallorca, with fares as low as £19 one-way. You can transfer in Palma to one of Air Berlin's range of Spanish mainland destinations, including Barcelona, Madrid and Valencia.

Cyprus Cheaper

"Here comes the sun" is the slogan of the newest competitor between the UK and Cyprus, Helios Airways (0870 750 2750, www.flyhelios.com). To recharge your solar batteries, you could take advantage of the low fares available from four English airports to the island's western resort of Paphos on off-peak departures between now and the middle of March. The lowest flat fare is around £115 return (subject to variations). You can fly from Manchester, Gatwick, Birmingham or Stansted.

Road Bargains

The two most popular Continental cities for British travellers are Amsterdam and Paris. Each is accessible by low-cost airline, but weekend fares tend to be higher. Booking about a week ahead with easyJet (0871 750 0100, www.easyJet.com) you would find the lowest prices from Luton in the range of £70-£90 return. Yet if you travel by bus with Eurolines (08705 143 219, www.nationalexpress.com) from Victoria, the fare to either city falls to £27 return.
