Australia agenda: Sydney turns the lights on for Vivid Sydney light and music festival

A dazzling array of flashing sculptures, immersive light installations and interactive light art projects will illuminate Sydney’s iconic buildings and public spaces during the Vivid Sydney light and music festival from May 27 to June 13.

Vivid Sydney, the largest light and music festival in the Southern Hemisphere, will illuminate Sydney with immersive light installations, projections, flashing sculptures, interactive light art, and music and DJ performances from local and international artists. Highlights include 3D lighting projections across the Sydney Opera House, the largest and most ambitious live fire show ever produced in Australia, and colourful architectural lighting on some of Sydney’s most prominent buildings. Up to 400,000 people are expected to attend the diverse array of free and ticketed events.

The Australian edition of the world's largest digital IT and telecommunications event, CeBIT takes place annually in Sydney, Australia. CeBIT Australia is hailed as the country's largest ICT exhibition (but is only around a 10th of the size of its parent event, CeBIT in Hannover). CeBIT Australia is a focal point of an additional series of events (including AusInnovate NBN, eHealth, eGovernment, Cloud Computing and WebForward) that will run concurrently to the exhibition. More than 600 exhibitors and 30,000 delegates are expected to attend CeBIT Australia in 2011.

The Sydney Film Festival (SFF for short) showcases a hand-picked selection of short films, Australian films, documentaries and archive titles - many of which are world premieres. While the Melbourne International Film Festival is regarded as the most significant film event in Australia, the Sydney Film Festival is one of the longest-running film festivals in the world. In 2011 SFF will again host the Travelling Film Festival, taking mini-film festivals to 15 venues across regional NSW, the Northern Territory and rural Queensland.

The 11th edition of the Melbourne International Animation Festival (MIAF11) is an eight-day festival showcasing some of the greatest animations created by artists around the world. MIAF is one of the largest animation festivals in the world. More than 400 films from over 30 countries will grace screens at the Australian Centre for the Moving Image during the festival. Entries in the MIAF are automatically considered for the UTS Sydney International Animation Festival, the London International Animation Festival, and Australia’s smaller, regional touring festival, the Australian International Animation Festival.
