The event features around 400 Australian and international poets, novelists and authors of literary nonfiction and attracts audiences of around 80,000 every year. Victoria's Melbourne Writers' Festival (August 25 - September 4) has been running as a solo event for longer than the Sydney Writers’ Festival but attracts a smaller audience of around 50,000 visitors.
