Jurgen Klopp used his first pre-match press conference as Liverpool manager to reveal his discomfort with being repeatedly asked for photographs by the club's excited supporters.

Images of the 48-year-old coach have been appearing on social media ever since his appointment last Thursday, with fans eager to get a snap of themselves with the Merseyside club's new boss.

Klopp, however, is eager to knuckle down and begin the serious work needed in order to rebuild the team and compete for a top-four finish.

"I never think about things like this," Klopp said, referring to the attention he has received since his appointment. "I don't like being photographed all the time, who does?

"It's a funny thing to do, to wait three hours for me to come out, take one photo and go home. But it's the situation.

"I'm interested in what we can do behind this door, not outside," he politely reminded both supporters and the press.

"I am told it will cool down soon, but hopefully not because of results!

"[In this country] Twitter is more than in Germany. It looks like I'm always in restaurants and bars!", he joked.

"It's a little bit strange because we haven't played. Let's start playing football and then we'll see how the relationship develops."

Tottenham v Liverpool - Premier League Preview

Despite seeming slightly uncomfortable with all the selfies, the former Borussia Dortmund coach was otherwise in optimistic mood ahead of Saturday's lunchtime kick-off against Tottenham Hotspur.

However, Klopp, who was more sincere and deliberate than in last week's introductory meeting with the press, told supporters not to expect wholesale changes to the side this weekend due to the disruption caused by the international break.

"We’ve had three excellent training sessions," Klopp said. “The boys are willing to listen. It’s not the time to change many things. It’s time to just turn the screws a little bit in the right ways.”

“Everything would be better if we had worked together for six weeks but it’s not a perfect world."

Klopp also spoke about Joe Gomez, the young defender who suffered anterior cruciate knee ligament damage while on duty for England Under-21s earlier this week.

The versatile Gomez is set to be out for the rest of the season with the injury, leaving Klopp with limited options in defence, particularly at left-back.

“Gomez came here and I met him for the first time. What a wonderful young boy, tall and muscular. But he has an ACL injury.

"Now we have to make further diagnoses, and we will see when he gets operated on. He can count the days until he's back.

"He's a young guy. It was not the best day in his life, but I am pretty good at waiting for young players. This is is home."

Klopp also revealed that he expects major summer signings Christian Benteke and Roberto Firmino to return from their respective injuries soon, if not as soon as this weekend.

“Benteke and Firmino are back on the pitch, not team training but better and better. I don't know exactly when they will come back, but I hope to see next week them in team training. Hopefully it can go quick, and they will be ready for playing.

"For sure, not Saturday, and I don't think Thursday (FC Sion in the Europa League). For next Sunday (Southampton at home), ask me next week."
