Donald Trump 'reduced Ivanka to tears' by refusing to apologise fully for 'grabbing women' comments

Ivanka Trump was reportedly reduced to tears by her father after he refused to issue a full apology for his comments about groping women.

Donald Trump’s election campaign took one of its most severe knocks when a leaked audio recording of him bragging about how he could “grab them [women] by the pussy” because he was famous.

The first daughter has spent many years building up a feminist profile and has pledged to use her considerable influence to work for gender equality while her father is in office.

But according to the New York Times, Ms Trump repeatedly attempted to convince him to offer a full apology for the comment, but he would only agreed to say sorry for any offence he caused.

Citing several people who were present at the crisis discussion, the paper said her "eyes welled with tears, her face reddened, and she hurried out in frustration".

Mr Trump released a video apology for the incident, which took place in 2005.

"I’ve never said I’m a perfect person, nor pretended to be someone that I’m not,” Mr Trump said in the video.

“I’ve said and done things I regret, and the words released today on this more than a decade-old video are one of them ... I said it, it was wrong, and I apologise.”

Ms Trump has just released a new book which discusses her role in the election campaign. In it, she says she was too busy for massages or meditation while on the road.

“During extremely high-capacity times, like during the campaign, I went into survival mode,” Ms Trump wrote.

“I wasn’t treating myself to a massage or making much time for self-care. I wish I could have awoken early to meditate for twenty minutes … but there just wasn’t enough time in the day."
