Trump says he doesn't get as many Twitters followers now despite being 'much hotter than I was months ago'

President says Twitter makes it 'very much harder for me to get out the message'

Donald Trump claims he doesn’t get as many Twitter followers as he used to despite being “much hotter now than I was a number of months ago”.

Speaking to Fox Business on Wednesday morning, the president said the social media site is suppressing his follower growth because it has a Democratic bias.

“What they did to me on Twitter is incredible,” Mr Trump said. “I have millions and millions of followers, but I will tell you, they make it very hard for people to join me in Twitter and they make it very much harder for me to get out the message.”

According to the president, he used to pick up "100,000 followers every few days" but then "all of a sudden it stopped".

It was not immediately clear if the president was referring to his popularity or his level of attractiveness, however, he did hypothesise that if he announced "tomorrow that I'm going to become a nice liberal Democrat," he would gain "five times more followers".

"These people are all Democrats, it's totally biased towards Democrats," he said.

In response to the president's claims, host Maria Bartiromo agreed, reminding the president that "Devin Nunes is suing Twitter right now".

"That's great. I think he's great. There's a lot of ways he's great, and I think he'll probably do well," the president said, adding: "He's right about it. Twitter is just terrible what they do."

In March, Congressman Nunes filed a lawsuit against Twitter and three Twitter users for defamation.

According to Mr Nunes, Twitter allows users to spread "false and defamatory statements about him".

Twitter's shares took a temporary hit in premarket trading during the president's comments, CNBC reports.
