Florida man tries to outrun police helicopter in stolen golf cart

A suspected car thief has failed in an attempt to outrun a police helicopter in a golf cart.

Police in Florida arrested Jerome Inman after an “auto theft crime spree” in Martin County which involved several suspects.

A group of men "burglarised a number of vehicles" before making a getaway in a car stolen from a petrol station, which they later crashed.

The 25-year-old suspect then made off on foot, bursting out of a wooded area at the Hammock Creek Golf Club in Palm City. He stole a cart from golfers after telling them he had a gun.

Newly released aerial video shows Mr Inman surrendering to officers not far from the seventh hole of the course on Saturday.

He was charged with grand theft auto and remains at the Martin County jail. A second suspect was also captured and charged.

Mr Inman later told police he took the cart because "he thought he could make a faster getaway".
