A fireman who delivered a baby after an emergency call decided to adopt the girl as his own daughter.

Marc Hadden, from South Carolina, responded to a late night call in 2011 for a woman in labour and when it became clear that he would not be able to reach the hospital in time, he took it upon himself to deliver the child.

The baby was put up for adoption immediately and Mr Hadden and his wife Beth decided to take her in as part of their own family within 48 hours of the birth.

Grace, who is now five-years-old, is described as a “daddy’s girl”.

"She is my best friend. We share an amazing bond," Mr Hadden told the Mirror Online.

"If you ask her to tell you, she says daddy delivered her in the back of an ambulance.

"We didn't want her to find out when she was older."

The couple already had two sons when they adopted Grace and both have taken on “protective older brother” roles. They said they don't consider Grace as being adopted.

“I don't even think about her being adopted. She's ours and we love her,” Mr Hadden said.

"I don't know that I have words [to describe holding my daughter]. I never envisioned actually having a daughter. We are truly blessed, for sure."
