Police baffled by ‘murdered’ man who keeps posting selfies on Facebook

Disappearance has been a ‘complete mystery’ for four years, detective chief inspector says

A man in a “bodiless murder investigation” could still be alive after selfies have appeared on Facebook, police have said.

Investigators thought Ricardas Puisys, who was last seen in 2015, could have been murdered after “there were no signs of life” during an initial missing person inquiry.

However, a Facebook account in his name surfaced last year which includes selfies of a man police said they believe to be the Lithuanian national.

Detective Chief Inspector Adam Gallop said the man’s disappearance has been a “complete mystery” for the past four years.

“To this day we have not found his body, nor have we found any evidence telling us he is alive,” DCI Gallop, from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit, said. “That was until last summer.”

He said his unit are trying to make contact with the Facebook account holder “but are yet to establish whether Ricardas is alive”.

Mr Puisys, from Wisbech, Cambridgeshire, went missing from a leek farm where he was working in Chatteris around 30km away.

DCI Gallop said police received information early on in their investigation that Mr Puisys had come to some harm and arrested one person on suspicious of murder, but no charges were made.

Police have appealed for members of the Lithuanian community in Wisbech to come forward with any information whatsoever about Mr Puisys’ whereabouts, no matter how insignificant it may seem.

DCI Gallop said: “Whether Ricardas is alive or not, someone knows what has happened to him. Please do the right thing and come forward.”
