A murder investigation is under way after a man was killed in a city centre street brawl.

The 23-year-old victim, who has not yet been named, was hit by a lorry after a fight in Brighton.

He was pronounced dead at the scene in Western Road at around 2.40am on Sunday.

A 27-year-old man from Hove has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is in custody, according to Sussex Police.

Detective Chief Inspector Tanya Jones appealed for any witnesses to come forward.

She said: "This has been a fast-moving investigation and we have arrested a man on suspicion of murder.

"However we are still appealing for witnesses who may have seen the fight which spilled into Western Road and then the victim being hit by a lorry.

"If you have any information about this incident please contact us."

Western Road from Montpelier Road to Norfolk Square is closed in both directions while investigations are being carried out.

Anyone with information can call Sussex Police on 101.
