A police officer has been injured after a confrontation with a moped gang in north London.

Six people riding three bikes attempted to rob a watch shop in Brent Cross shopping centre on Tuesday evening.

Police officers were able to intervene and two men were arrested on conspiracy to rob but the others fled the scene.

In the altercation one policeman suffered a head injury, which is not believed to be serious, and was later taken to hospital.

A woman in her 50s was treated by paramedics for an injury to her arm.

One of the suspects was taken to hospital for minor injuries and the other is in custody in a north London police station.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: "The four other suspects made off on two motorcycles. Urgent inquiries are under way to trace them. We await confirmation of whether anything was stolen."

The latest incident comes two weeks after Moped robbers stole a £25,000 Rolex watch from a 64-year-old man’s wrist in a busy north London street.

Two masked moped riders threatened the man with a large knife and “forcibly removed” his Rolex Daytona watch, injuring his arm, leg and face.

The victim was “shaken by the attack” in north London and taken to hospital before being discharged later that day, the Metropolitan Police said.
