Murder investigation launched after man stabbed to death in Norwich

Early evidence suggests city centre attack was not a random incident, police say

A man has died after a stabbing in Norwich city centre, triggering a murder probe.

Norfolk Constabulary said police were called to the Rose Lane car park just after midnight on Friday to reports that a man in his forties had been assaulted.

The victim, who has not been named, was taken to Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital where he later died.

A man in his twenties has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is being held in police custody, the force said.

Prior to the man’s death, police had issued an appeal for information over the incident.

Detective Inspector Ian Cox said: “We are in the early stages of the investigation, however enquiries carried out to date suggest this was not a random attack.

“There has been an increased police presence in the area and will be for some time as our investigation continues.

“A seal remains in place whilst officers carry out enquiries to fully understand the circumstances surrounding the incident.”
