Newlywed stabbed to death by stepson

A British woman who had recently married an American psychologist was stabbed to death by her stepson in a frenzied attack at their home.

The Foreign Office said Tracy Brannan, 33, originally from Glasgow, died in the incident in Omaha, Nebraska, yesterday.

The stepson, David Brannan, 21, then stabbed himself, according to neighbours. Mrs Brannan's husband Harold, 60, was also injured in the attack.

Mrs Brannan, born Tracy Wyatt, married Mr Brannan in May.

The Omaha World Herald said David Brannan was being treated at the Nebraska Medical Centre for stab wounds but was expected to survive.

A Foreign Office spokesman said: "A British national died in Omaha, Nebraska.

"Next of kin are aware and we are providing consular assistance."

The newspaper said police were called at about 4.40am local time to investigate a report of a person knocking on a resident's door asking for help.

Neighbours said that was Harold Brannan, who later told them that his son had stabbed him and his new wife.

Mrs Brannan's niece, Rebecca, posted messages on a social networking site saying she would never forget her aunt.

She said: "R.I.P. Auntie Tracy. Miss you. Sorry to hear how it happened. Love you. XX Never forgot."

She added: "I hate Dave for doing this. I miss her."

Douglas Fraser, owner of the Cairndow Stagecoach Inn in Argyll, knew Mrs Brannan when she worked as an assistant chef at the nearby Loch Fyne Oyster bar.

He said: "She was a nice lassie. She was very nice and bubbly.

"She was quite well known in the area and people are shocked by what has happened.

"She worked at the oyster bar for eight or nine years and she used to come to the inn when she lived in the area."
