Man faces court on terror charges

A 37-year-old man appeared in court today charged with terror offences.

Justin Cartwright, a joiner, appeared at Westminster Magistrates' Court charged with five counts of collecting information which may be useful to someone committing an act of terrorism contrary to section 58 of the Terrorism Act 2000.

He is also charged with two counts of making an explosive substance for an unlawful purpose.

Cartwright, of Woodville Road, Penwortham, Lancashire, was arrested on Tuesday as part of a joint operation involving Lancashire Constabulary and the North West Counter Terrorism Unit,

District Judge Daphne Wickham remanded Cartwright in custody to appear at the Old Bailey on October 30.
