A 44-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a 30-year-old woman died following a stabbing incident inside an Aldi supermarket in Skipton, North Yorkshire.

Police and paramedics were called to the shop at around 3.30pm on Thursday after the suspect was initially detained by members of staff and the public.

He was initially taken into custody on suspicion of attempted murder but the victim was confirmed to have died by North Yorkshire Police in a statement several hours later.

"It has now turned into a murder investigation despite the efforts of medics to save the victim," the statement said.

Police confirmed the incident was not linked to terrorism or a hate crime.

A police guard will remain in place overnight at the Aldi store on Keighley Road.
