Food for thought: Roxana Silbert, artistic director

Roxana Silbert is the artistic director of the Birmingham Repertory Theatre where her latest production, Molière’s comedy Tartuffe, runs until 16 November. She tells Charlotte Cripps about her current reading, watching and surfing.

Sunday

I cook lamb for friends while listening to The Archers omnibus on iPlayer. I’m addicted to it.

Monday

I continue catching up with a new website – inequalitybriefing.org – a fascinating collection of data about shocking wealth inequality in the UK that’s created by an economist.

Tuesday

I attend a “Best of” Birmingham European Festival evening at Birmingham Rep – an eclectic programme of three European theatre shows plus a big meal.

Wednesday

Got up early to read The Mother, a compelling play by Brecht, in a new translation by Mark Ravenhill, before rehearsals. In the evening, I see Paolo Sorrentino’s La Grande Belleza, a beautiful, moving film.

Thursday

Lunchtime is spent researching traditional Indian film posters as inspiration for play publicity.

Friday

In the morning I listen to Desert Island Discs. I went to see Le Week-End in the evening – brilliant performances and a great laugh.

Saturday

Fall asleep reading my book of the moment: The Deep Whatsis, Peter Mattei’s first novel and a searing indictment of advertising.
