Tennis ball-sized hail batters Minnesota as severe storms sweep across state

Severe thunderstorms brought heavy hail to southern Minnesota on Friday 11 August.

One video shows “Baseball sized hail” pummeling Oakdale Golf Club, close to Buffalo Lake, Renville County.

“Everyone’s car is toast,” Lara Durben wrote, sharing the footage on Twitter.

Further east, hail the size of tennis balls battered the midwestern city of Minneapolis.

The National Weather Service for Minnesota’s twin cities reported hail measuring 2.5 inches in diameter (6.3cm).

Forecasts suggest further storms for Saturday and Sunday across the state and in neighbouring Wisconsin.
