High-tech product releases announced the week ending June 2 include a square smartphone for social networkers, a grayscale tablet for artists and e-readers, a Windows slate that converts into a laptop, headphones that make a statement, and a crimson red luxury smartphone.

A compact phone that has social networking squared
The Motorola FLIPOUT with MOTOBLUR is a touch screen phone made to fit into your pocket. The square device has a five-row QWERTY keypad that flips out to make an easy task out of sending long messages to your friends. The back of the device can be customized in an array of different colors whilst the on board MOTOBLUR service will sync your friends, emails, messages, Facebook, MySpace and Twitter feeds to your home screen so you never miss a beat. The 1.5 gram phone is powered by Google's Android OS 2.1 and comes with a 2.8 inch display (320x240p), FM radio receiver, video playback, 3 megapixel camera with digital zoom, Android HTML WebKit (with Adobe Flash Enabled), MicroSD card slot, GPS, WiFi, and USB 2.0. The device is set to launch in selected regions across the globe in Q2 2010. Pricing is yet to be announced.

A tablet for artists and e-readers alike
Dubbed as "one of the world's most accurate and sensitive digital note-taking devices," the ASUS Eee Tablet is a touchscreen device that comes with 2,450 dpi input sensitivity. The device is ideal for reading e-books, jotting down notes, and creating complex black and white artworks with the included stylus. The first edition of the tablet will be released with a 64-level grayscale LCD touchscreen while future editions may be shipped with a full color display. It ships with a USB port, MicroSD card support, a battery life of about 10 hours, and a built in 2 megapixel camera. The device is rumored to be priced in between $199 and $299 when it becomes available in September.

A Windows-powered portable slate that converts into a laptop
ASUS's Eee Pad EP121 is a 12 inch tablet that runs the full version of Windows 7 and can multitask. It packs in an Intel Core 2 Duo CULV processor and is compatible with Adobe Flash. The device will provide users with 10 hours of battery life and has an integrated web camera, USB port, and SD card slot. The Eee can be converted into a laptop using the portable docking kit. The Eee Pad EP121 has been designed for productivity (input and writing), media creation (blogging, photo editing, and social networking) and media consumption (reading and video watching). No official prices have been announced and the Eee Pad EP121 is not expected to ship until Q1 2010.

Headphones that make a fashion forward statement
V-MODA's Crossfade LP Headphones are multipurpose headphones with a distinct design. The Crossfade LP over-ear headphones are crafted from luxurious materials, have stylish lightweight metal detailing and pack in 50mm Dual-Diaphragm HD drivers. The headphones are the result of four years of collaboration between top musicians and music lifestyle brand V-MODA. The headphones come in three different models, White Pearl, Phantom Chrome and Gunmetal Black. There are two detachable Kevlar-reinforced cables with 24k gold-plated plugs. One features a three-button remote control and a high-fidelity microphone that can be used to answer/end phone calls and change volume. The headphones are priced from $249.99 and can be purchased from the V-MODA website, http://v-moda.com/

A luxury Android phone for Ferrari fans
Acer's latest entry in the smartphone category is a special edition fiery red Android-powered Ferrari-branded device. The 3.5 inch capacitive touchscreen is encased with Ferrari's distinctive crimson red and branded with the distinctive "Scuderia Ferrari" shield. Specifications are the same as Acer's Liquid E device: a 768 MHz Snapdragon Processor, Android 2.1, 5 megapixel autofocus camera, WiFi, and GPS. The handset will be available in August but no pricing information has been released.
