Apple's Steve Jobs will be the opening night speaker at the "D: All Things Digital" technology conference, organizers said, a rare public appearance by the co-founder of the California company.

The 55-year-old Apple chief executive will be interviewed by conference co-producers Kara Swisher and Walt Mossberg on the opening night of the event to be held June 1-3 near Los Angeles, they said.

Other speakers at the conference will include Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Ford CEO Alan Mulally and "Avatar" director James Cameron.

Jobs, who was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2004 and underwent a liver transplant last year, last appeared onstage at a "D: All Things Digital" conference in 2007.

The visionary behind the Macintosh computer, iPod, iPhone and iPad rarely grants interviews or appears in public outside of Apple-hosted events.
