PSP Dual Packs launch at $15

Three budget-priced, double game packs are on their way to North American PSP owners this week, with Ratchet, Daxter, Syphon Filter, SOCOM and Killzone among the platform's classic titles headed to a modern audience.

Secret Agent Clank (2008) is joined by Daxter (2006), the first game produced by the studio behind the PSP's God Of War spin-offs.

Syphon Filter, meanwhile, comes from the developers at Sony Bend, who are now working on Uncharted: Golden Abyss for the upcoming PlayStation Vita.

Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror (2006) is paired with the first SOCOM: US Navy Seals Fireteam Bravo game (2005), while Syphon Filter: Logan's Shadow (2007) and Killzone: Liberation (2006) are bundled together in the final Dual Pack.

With the PlayStation Vita to begin a phased launch towards the end of 2011, isn't this just an excuse to flog old discs that won't work on the PSP successor?

Not so, as the Dual Packs will be available on disc at retail or as downloadable (and therefore PSV-compatible) equivalents from the PlayStation Network store.

Console rival Nintendo recently launched its own range of Nintendo Selects classics for the Wii. Wii Sports and Animal Crossing: City Folk were joined by Mario Super Sluggers and The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess in North America, and by WarioWare Smooth Moves and Mario Strikers Charged elsewhere.
