Nexus 6: Google dramatically cuts price of flagship phone

Cheapest version is available for only £304

Google has dramatically slashed the price of its Nexus 6 handset.

In the Google Store, the 32GB version of the phone can be bought for £304, and the 64GB one goes for £379. Both can be bought in the handset’s two colours, “Midnight Blue” and “Cloud White”.

It’s not clear whether the change is a temporary sale or a permanent price cut. The handset has been discounted on Motorola’s store recently, however, so the new price might be sticking around.

Google is widely expected to release a new version of its flagship handset later this year. Some have suggested that it might come with the launch of Android M — the new version of the mobile operating system, which is expected towards the fourth quarter of this year.

The Nexus 6 is developed by Google and made by Motorola, as part of the Nexus programme that sees the firm team up with handset makers to create what many prize as a more “pure” version of the Android operating system. As such, it tends to get special features from Google — its recently announced mobile phone network in the US, for instance, can only work on the Nexus 6.
