Current Google Insights trends: Miss Universe, Hotmail, calciomercato

The term "Miss Universe" was the most searched for topic on Google Insights over the past seven days on the morning of August 30.

Jimena Navarrete from Mexico was crowned the winner of annual beauty contest Miss Universe on August 23. The 22-year-old winner is the first woman from Mexico to wear the Miss Universe crown since 1991; the contest dominated the top two search terms.

"Hotmail Login" was the third most searched for term this week; some web users have recently criticized the remote email access site over security problems.

News about Italian football generated several of the most popular searches with Italian sites calciomercato, tuttomercatoweb and tuttosport appearing fourth, fifth and sixth respectively in the most popular search terms over the last seven days.

French employment site "pole emploi" was the eighth most popular search term, and the name of Brazilian internet company uol.com.br was the ninth most popular term. UOL is one of the biggest internet sites in Brazil and provides content relating to news, sports, entertainment and sports as well as internet-related services and products.

The search terms with the most significant growth worldwide in the last seven days as measured by Google Insights, recorded on August 30 at 10:30 AM GMT are:

3. hotmail login (+130%)

4. calciomercato (+90%)

5. tuttomercatoweb (+60%)

6. tuttosport (+50%)

7. barclays (+40)

8. pole emploi (+40%)

9. uol.com.br (+40%)
