That loud buzzer on BBC Two’s University Challenge has been at it again, giving cause for concern as to why some of the nation’s brightest students insist on appearing on the quiz show.

This time, though, the victim of the seemingly startling sound was the captain of Oxford’s Nuffield College team who were making their second appearance on the popular show after thrashing London’s Queen Mary College by 165 point to 130.

Maybe it’s an Oxford thing but international relations student Mathias Ormestad Frendem - originally from Oslo in Norway - seemed to have unknowingly followed in the footsteps of fellow Oxford student Charlie Clegg from just weeks ago to almost jump out of his seat at the sound of his own teammate’s buzzer - although Ormestad Frendem’s reaction is way better than Clegg’s.

The amusing moment (for the viewer, not for the captain, unfortunately) was captured and, unsurprisingly, posted onto Twitter. We dare you not to roar with laughter each time you watch the following clip - you have been cautioned:

University Challenge has not failed to keep viewers entertained with a series of events in recent weeks that have kept Twitter users talking, including ‘vestgate’, the sphincter preservation student, young Clegg, and last week’s ‘Bezer the geezer’ and afro debacle too.

Despite Ormestad Frendem’s undoubtedly shattered nerves, the team managed to conquer their opponents from Warwick by 160 points to 120 to make it through to the quarterfinals.

Here’s hoping the student will be more composed on his next appearance on the show. Overall, however, we’re already looking forward to what next week’s instalment will bring.
