At a press conference on Friday night UFC President Dana White put an end to any hope of salvaging the originally scheduled UFC 200 main event rematch between Nate Diaz and Conor McGregor.

The press conference took place at the MGM Grand and Diaz was in attendance, alongside ten other fighters who will be appearing on the fight cards throughout UFC International Fight Week in July.

Diaz was introduced to the stage by White who said that the UFC were currently looking for a new opponent for the welterweight champion.

The 31-year-old California native, however, clearly wasn't on the same page as his boss and was quick to point out that it was McGregor or nothing for him.

“I just came to fight Conor McGregor,” Diaz said. “I don’t really have too much interest in anybody else. I don’t have any interest in fighting at all. But if that’s what we’re going to do, we’re going to do it.”

Diaz reiterated this statement multiple times throughout the press conference and said he is planning to go on vacation if he doesn't get to fight the Irishman. A rematch between the two was put into turmoil earlier this week after McGregor tweeted he was “retiring young.” The UFC cancelled the bout and White took to the media and cited McGregor’s refusal to fulfil his media obligations as the cause.

While Diaz was saying one thing, Dana White repeatedly throughout the press said the bout between Diaz and McGregor was off for good and that there was no hope of the situation being resolved in time.

“This thing has pretty much played out in the media. We try to give as much leeway as we can on things. But you have to show up to appearances and you have to shoot the commercials. Is it too much to ask? … Listen, we gave Conor every opportunity in the world to get here. We get criticized a lot for bending too much for Conor, and we do.”

When asked about the state of their relationship, White said he is not mad at McGregor and the plan is for the winner of the interim featherweight title bout between Frankie Edgar and Jose Aldo at UFC 200, to face McGregor in a unification bout at a later date, perhaps UFC 202 or UFC 203.

Despite not even being in attendance, McGregor then made his feelings known about what was being said via Twitter.

It took a matter of minutes for Diaz to be questioned about the tweet, to which he responded in typical fashion.

“Conor got his ass beat,” Diaz said.

A full forty-five minutes later and the UFC 200 main even picture was no clearer. McGregor, Diaz, the fans all wanting one thing and seemingly the UFC wanting another. It looks like this saga is going to be drawn out a little bit longer.
