Wimbledon 2015: Defending champion Petra Kvitova takes little time beating Kurumi Nara

The Czech was back in the locker room inside an hour

Anyone with a ticket for a Petra Kvitova match cannot afford to arrive late. In last year's final she saw off Eugenie Bouchard in under an hour; her first round match this year against Kiki Bertens lasted 36 minutes, in which Bertens was allowed one point against the serve - a double fault.

Court One spectators who drifted off for tea after Andy Murray's match here needed to be back within half an hour to see anything of the first set against Japan's Kurumi Nara, who lost it 6-2. The second took 23 minutes, the only question being whether Nara could win a game; she did not.

So without being at her absolute best, Kvitova was again back in the locker-room inside an hour, contemplating greater challenges ahead.

"I was expecting a tough match but I was prepared and I'm really happy with how I played," she said.

It was a catchweight contest in which Nara, the smallest player on the tour, was conceding 11 inches to the 6ft Kvitova and on the rare occasion the defending champion was in trouble - at 0-30 for instance early in the second set - there were three huge swinging serves to get her out of it.

She hit 10 aces altogether and the match was concluded when Nara went tamely long once more.
