Three added to Chase tennis field

The season-ending tournament, to be played Nov. 13-19 at Madison Square Garden, brings together the top 16 singles players and top eight doubles teams, based on their WTA Tour rankings at the end of the year.

The tournament is leaving New York City after 29 years and will be played in Munich, Germany, starting next year.

The three additions increase the singles field to eight. Switzerland's Martina Hingis, Americans Lindsay Davenport, Venus Williams and Monica Seles and Sanchez-Vicario's Spanish compatriot Conchita Martinez qualified earlier on season point totals.

Serena Williams won the gold medal in women's doubles for the United States with sister Venus. She qualified for the tournament for the first time last year but withdrew because of a back injury.

Pierce of France will be making her seventh appearance. Besides her French Open title this year, she won the Family Circle Cup in her only other final appearance.

Sanchez-Vicario qualified for the Chase Championships for the 12th time. She has made two finals this year, losing to Pierce in the Family Circle Cup and to Hingis at Hamburg, Germany.
