Tomorrow Britain's second husky racing championships, organised by the British Sled Dog Racing Association, kick off on the Norfolk-Suffolk border. The opening round of the Baker's Complete British Championship series of six races takes place at Brandon Park, where more than 70 teams of dogs and drivers will compete on forest trails over courses between 2 1/2 and six miles in three categories based on the number of huskies pulling a rig. The terrain in Brandon Park is undulating and no snow is forecast. The huskies, however, perform more efficiently on dry ground, pulling wheeled rigs. Sleds will be used if more wintry conditions prevail as the series continues into the New Year.

How to get there: Brandon Park, Brandon, Suffolk, is on A1065 north of Mildenhall. Leave A11 at Barton Mills, north-east of Newmarket. Starting times for tomorrow and Sunday (teams leave at three-minute intervals): 9am: B class (4-6 dogs). 10.30am: C class (3 or 4 dogs). 12.30pm: D class (2 dogs). Racing finishes at 3.30pm.
