Sports Letters: Time for tough action

Sir: I am amazed at those who naively expected any action by the NZRFU, who have, as usual, condoned the 'raking' which this time nearly cost the sight of one of England's best young players.

The All Blacks have raked their way across the northern hemisphere throughout my lifetime. Perhaps the only way to stop it (and make them realise we're serious) is to refuse to play against any team containing the culprits for the remainder of this tour.

The argument I've heard that 'he was lying offside, so deserved it' is a short step away from condoning GBH for a minor sporting infringement.

Is this a road down which we wish to go?

Yours in abhorrence

ALAN RIDLEY
