TIGER WOODS won the last three holes of his 36-hole final match against Trip Kuehne at Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, on Sunday to become the youngest winner in the history of the US Amateur Championship. The 18-year-old from Cypress, California, is the first black champion in the 94 years of the tournament, and earns invitations to next year's Open, US Open and US Masters.

TONY JACKLIN finished in fourth place in the Franklin Quest Seniors Championship in Park City, Utah, after a final-round 71. The former British and US Open winner had a total of 208, eight under par and four shots behind the winner, Tom Weiskopf.

MARK ROE, of England, who was hit by a shot from an amateur nearly a fortnight ago, has pulled out of this week's Canon European Open in Switzerland because he is still suffering headaches. Roe, fifth in the European Tour money list, was hit during the pre-tournament pro-am for the English Open.
