LENNOX LEWIS relinquished the European heavyweight title yesterday, but he left it until two minutes before the 5pm deadline to tender his decision. The British champion's world title eliminator against Razor Ruddock at Earl's Court on 31 October made it impossible for him to defend the European title against the official contender, Henry Akinwande, on the scheduled date.
