3 min: First chance to spread play but Matt Dawson spills his pass to hand a scrum to France.

8 min: Prepares to drop for goal after the French concede a free-kick, and although the first attempt is foiled, kicks the goal with his right foot second time around.

16 min: Fails to find touch after the French wrap up Lawrence Dallaglio at the back of an England scrum.

22 min: Finds a good touch under pressure as France concede a penalty, and then repeats the dose to give his side a line-out on halfway.

25 min: An opening appears down the left wing but his pass to Ben Cohen goes to ground.

28 min: Penalty chance after Christophe Dominici is penalised for a trip on Jason Robinson but falls short.

30 min: Hammers an inch-perfect place kick downfield to pin the French back inside their own 22.

33 min: Knowing that referee Paddy O'Brien is playing advantage for offside, sends a steepling kick up towards Brusque, who knocks on. Regulation penalty makes it 6-7.

40 min:After Ben Kay and Dallaglio punch holes in the French defence, drops another goal to give England the lead.

40 min: France are penalised for handling in the ruck in injury time and Wilkinson drives over a long-range penalty to make it 12-7.

41 min: A third penalty but his effort drifts wide of the right post.

45 min: Gets in a crunching tackle on Jauzion but Mike Catt gives away a penalty which Michalak again drags wide.

49 min: Jerome Thion is penalised but penalty fades right.

53 min: Launches a high kick towards Cohen and is caught late by Betsen, who is yellow-carded.

55 min: Slots over the ensuing penalty as England go 15-7 ahead.

57 min: Executes another big hit on Jauzion to halt a French attack.

59 min: Push by the pack sets up another drop goal attempt, which he kicks after stepping inside off his right foot.

65 min: Kicks a fourth penalty after the French are punished for not retiring 10 metres.

74 min: Takes his and England's tally to 24 points with another penalty after Thion hangs on in the tackle.

78 min: Audacious drop-goal attempt charged down.

79 min: Chips ahead for Mike Tindall, but the centre cannot ground the ball over the line.
