Thierry Lacroix established a new Premiership kicking record as he landed nine penalties to put Saracens back on top of the table yesterday. Wasps' director of rugby, Nigel Melville, admitted his side were "kicked to death" as the French fly-half landed nine penalties to claim all Saracens points in their 27-26 victory over Wasps.
Melville complained about the referee Trevor Fisher, saying, "We weren't particularly happy with the number of penalties awarded. I don't think the referee had a particularly good game."
Melville's opposite number, Alan Zondagh, said: "Keep possession in your opponent's half and sooner or later you get a penalty. It was a problem in the World Cup and it will be a problem in the Premiership."
