Rugby League: Oldham ease their fears

Two new Australian coaches experienced contrasting fortunes with their new charges yesterday, while Paris St-Germain managed to pull off a victory without a man in charge.

The former Kangaroo Test forward, Bob Lindner, engineered Oldham's second win of the season - 18-14 at Sheffield - to ease their relegation fears, but Stuart Raper, the new Castleford coach, watched his club go four points adrift at the bottom thanks to a 13-8 home defeat by Paris, who sacked their coach, Peter Mulholland, a week ago after seven defeats in a row.

Halifax moved into fourth place with a 42-30 win over Warrington at Thrum Hall, where Michael Jackson turned the game with two tries in 14 minutes in the second half.
