DENYS SMITH, the northern trainer, sends the two-year-olds Zestril and Lady-Love to the July meeting at Newmarket next week. Zestril, a winner at Carlisle last week, will make the journey from County Durham to tackle Tuesday's Cherry Hinton Stakes. The following day Lady-Love, a winner at Musselburgh, runs in the EBF Swaythling Memorial Novice Stakes.

Smith said: "We're a bit restricted with both horses as they are home- bred and can't run in any of the sales races."

Smith's last victory in big two-year-old event at Newmarket came 27 years ago when Tudenham, ridden by Jimmy Lindley, won the Middle Park Stakes. Smith added: "I haven't been there that much since but that race still sticks in my mind. I remember that I wanted Lester Piggott to ride but I couldn't get him."

Smith has booked Kieren Fallon to ride Zestril. Smith said: "Zestril did very well to win at Carlisle as she lost a lot of ground at the start. She has improved a lot from that run - and I hope she will run well - but I'm not confident as I don't know how good the others are."
