The Solario Stakes at Sandown on Friday could test the claims of two leading candidates for next year's 2,000 Guineas.

John Dunlop is using the Group Three seven-furlong event as a stepping- stone for his unbeaten Haami, 12-1 third favourite for next year's first colts' Classic with William Hill.

And John Hills is set to run Docksider, who chased home Central Park, the Guineas 16-1 fourth favourite, in the Lanson Champagne Vintage Stakes at Goodwood last month. The trainer said: "We will also have a look at the Futurity Stakes at the Curragh on Saturday but he is more likely to run at Sandown.

"I was very, very pleased with him at Goodwood as he was very green. The winner that day is a very good horse and his form has since been franked by Cape Verdi at York. Docksider has done well since the race and he will run unless there is a downpour and the ground is soft.

"But we have a problem with the jockey. Richard Hills is claimed to ride Haami and Michael Hills is retained by Geoff Wragg and will ride in Baden-Baden that day."

1998 2,000 Guineas: Wm Hill betting: 6-1 Daggers Drawn, King Of Kings, 12-1 Haami, 16-1 Central Park, Xaar, 25-1 Anytime, Fantasy Island, Saratoga Springs, 33-1 bar.
