BRYN CROSSLEY was lucky to escape injury at Nottingham yesterday when Stately Home, his mount in the Whatton Manor Stud Maiden, swerved across the track and crashed through a rail.

'I sat back and thought of England,' Crossley said. 'I did a triple axle and body twist before landing on my backside about four feet from the cameraman's landrover. With the old wooden rails, I would have been a goner.'

Stately Home was recaptured unhurt by a groundsman.
