Walker set for Donington despite fall

Chris Walker is set to patch up his wounds to race in Sunday's British 500cc Grand Prix at Donington Park after narrowly escaping serious injury.

Walker crashed his Shell Advance Honda at 150mph during practice for the Dutch Grand Prix at Assen on Friday and was lucky to escape with concussion and a badly bruised right hand.

The Nottingham racer was spared serious injury by his crash helmet. But concussion and having the nail ripped off his little finger has not put Walker off racing in his home round of the championship.

Walker's manager, Dave Pickworth, described the rider's chances of racing on Sunday as better than 50-50 but stressed he would have to be signed off as fit to ride by the Donington medical team.

"He has a badly swollen hand so we will have to look at how that is but Chris wants to race at Donington," said Pickworth.
