Millwall save record with late strikes

Millwall preserved their unbeaten away record and their advantage at the top of the Endsleigh League First Division by scoring twice in the last six minutes to earn a 2-2 draw at Oldham last night.

For 80 minutes, Stuart Barlow, Oldham's pounds 350,000 signing from Everton, looked like marking a fine debut with a win after laying on Sean McCarthy's opener a minute before the break and adding the second himself 10 minutes from time from 20 yards. But Millwall reduced the deficit in the 84th minute when Alex Rae headed home from close range from a free-kick by substitute Dave Savage, and equalised in the last minute when Chris Malkin headed in Ben Thatcher's cross.

Norwich's promotion challenge gathered pace with a 4-1 win at The Hawthorns, West Bromwich's fifth successive League defeat. After falling behind to Andy Hunt's early goal, they scored four times in 21 minutes through Robert Fleck, Keith Scott - on his debut - Neil Adams and Ashley Ward.

n Barnet, of the Third Division, were knocked out of the FA Cup by Woking for the second year running last night. Scott Steele earned the Vauxhall Conference side a 2-1 victory in extra time in the first-round replay at the Kingfield Stadium.
