Hockey: New arrivals boost Stourport

HOUNSLOW, LOOKING for their first win of the season, tomorrow travel to the Midlands to face unbeaten Cannock while Bournville come South to tackle unbeaten Canterbury in two rearranged Premier League games.

In a full First Division programme Stourport entertain Loughborough students and will be expected to maintain their number one position on maximum points. They will be boosted by the move from Southgate of Ajan Reginald and the arrival of Domenico Chiricosta and Mauro Zedda from the Italian Under-21 squad.

Slough will not need reminding on their trip to Bristol today for their women's Premier League game that it was way back in March 1997 that they suffered their last league defeat, 2-0 at the hands of today's opposition, Clifton Scottish Life, with two field goals coming from the then 20-year- old Denise Marston-Smith. It did not prevent the Berkshire side from going on to win the league, which they have now done a remarkable six times out of the nine years of the competition.

With maximum points from their first three outings, Slough, who went indoors in Hamburg last weekend, will be expecting to extend that record. The team, who are likely to have just one home-bred player in their squad at Clifton, goalkeeper Lynnette Smith, have recruited yet another international to their squad.

England's Fiona Greenham, who two seasons ago was leading goalscorer while at Loughborough University, has joined them from Olton and is expected to play at Clifton. Greenham will be the natural successor to Scotland's Sue MacDonald, who departed at the beginning of the season to Africa.
